Towards One Nation, One Health System: A Pragmatic Approach to Integrative Medicine
Main Article Content
Abstract
India has long been a land of medical pluralism, where multiple healing traditions have coexisted for centuries—ranging from Indigenous systems like Ayurveda, Siddha, and Unani to later imports like homoeopathy from Europe and, of course, modern Western medicine or allopathy. Against this backdrop, in late 2021 and early 2022, reports emerged that the Government of India, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is contemplating a major overhaul of the country's healthcare landscape under the banner of a "One Nation, One Health System" policy by the year 2030. According to preliminary information, this policy would integrate modern allopathy with traditional systems such as homoeopathy and Ayurveda in medical practice, Education, and research. (1,2).
